The Ghana Police Service is one of the law enforcement agencies we have in Ghana founded in 1894 to that see to it that law and order ensure in the country as well as protect lives and properties in the country. They are under the Ministry of Interior, headed by Hon. Ambrose Dery and his task were to take responsibility for internal security and enforce law and order in the country.
History Of Ghana Police Service
The Ghana police service was created by our colonial masters to produce an enabling environment to arrest and prosecute people who disobey the laws of the country and also ensure law and order but after independence in 1957, the Ghana Police service received legal backing through the Police Act (Act 350) in 1970 to firm up its existence as we see it today.
Motto, Duty, and Types Of Police Service In Ghana
With their motto being Service With Integrity, the Ghana Police Service is expected to detect and prevent crimes going on in the country, apprehend and prosecute offenders of law in the country, maintain law and order, as well as protect the lives and property of the people in Ghana and it’s their duty to be consistent with the expectations of Ghanaians for safe, secure, and peaceful communities.
The Ghana Police Service officers are expected to treat offenders, staff, and the general public with integrity, respect, and understanding and demonstrate professionalism through vigilance, fortitude, integrity, and pride in the work, zero tolerance for crime, and full commitment to human rights.
The Ghana Police Service has different departments and each has a different focus but they all work together to ensure the safety of the country of Ghana. They have the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), the Motor Traffic and Transport Directorate (MTTD), the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU), the Police College (the general police we know), Works and Housing Department and they have about 12 divisions nationwide. The highest rank is Inspector General and the lowest rank is Constable.

Head, Former IGP, and Rank & Symbols of Ghana Police Service
The current Inspector General of Police is George Akuffo Dampare who has been in office since August 1st, 2021 till date but before him, James Oppong-Boanuh was the 22nd IGP of Ghana and his reign was from October 2019 to August 2021 when he retired as servant of the nations Ghana. The Ghana Police Service is divided into two ranks and that is the Senior Officers and the Junior Officers.
The Senior Officers comprise the Inspector General of Police (IGP) which is the highest rank, followed by the Deputy Inspector General, the Commissioner, the Deputy Commissioner, the Assistant Commissioner, Chief Supritent, the Superintendent, the Deputy Superintendent, and the Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) being the last rank.

The Chief Superintendent of Police – has two eagles facing each other surmounted by one star.

The Assistant Superintendent of Police – has two stars.
The Cadet Officer – One Star.
The Chief Inspector – has four white metal bars each mounted with the Black Star in the center

The Regiment Sergeant Major – has the Ghana Coat of Arms in the form of a metal badge worn on both sleeves.
The District Sergeant Major – has the star surrounded by laurel leaves in the form of a metal badge worn on the left sleeve.
The Sergeant – has three chevrons worn on both sleeves
The Corporal – has two chevrons worn on both sleeves
The Lance Corporal – has one chevron worn on both sleeves

Salary For Ghana Police Service
For a working week of 40 hours, a Ghanaian Police officer is expected to be paid between the range of 700.00 cedis to 4,550.00 cedis per month depending on the rank of the police officer and the number of years of experience the officer has which includes housing, transportation, and other benefits some officers get at the end of every month.

A Chief Inspector of Police can earn GHc 1,400.00 a month while a newly recruited Constable can earn GHc 7,00.00 at the end of the month.

The entry requirement into the Ghana Police Service for a graduate:
You must be a citizen of Ghana.
You must not have been convicted of a criminal offense.
You must have bagged a degree from any of the Ghanaian accredited universities not below Second Class lower.
You must have concluded your mandatory National Service.
You must be knowledgeable about
You should not be less than 21 years and more than 28 years old at the time of applying.
You must be physically and medically fit.
You must be of good character.
The minimum required height for males is 1.73m (5ft8inches) and for females is 1.63m (5ft4inches).
Have at least 5 credits in any of WASSCE or BECE which must include a credit in English and a Pass in Mathematics

Is The Ghana Police Form Out And Do They Accept Diploma
We believe The Ghana Police Recruitment form for 2022/2023 is currently out since it usually comes out between August 30th and September 10th. The Management of The Ghana Police has announced that the recruitment of 2022 applicants who were successful throughout the screening exercise with start training on 14th January 2023.

How Long Do Ghana Police Service Train And Their Training Allowance
It takes approximately, 6 months of intensive training for one to become a police officer at the Police College in Accra, and officers are made to learn police duties and how to handle and fix weapons when they come out.
Just like every other training service in Ghana, The Ghana Police trainers are given allowances that change from time to time but currently range from 850.00 to 1,500.00 cedis.
How To Get A Clearance From Ghana Police Service
A Clearance form is a certificate that confirms whether you have a criminal record or not and a non-resident is expected to pay 1,200.00 cedis while a resident is expected to pay 100.00 cedis together with 2 passport pictures with a red background, and an employment vetting with fingerprint request on CID Form will pay 60.00 cedis with.
You are expected to provide your full name, surname, date of birth, and identity document or passport to the police at the police station where your fingerprints will be taken.

The Headquarters of The Ghana Public Officer for Legal Investigations and Criminal Emergencies (POLICE) is located at Accra, Ring Road East-Cantonment, and has up of 14 police divisions, 42 districts, and 110 police stations and posts in Accra alone.
