Three people dead in fatal crash on Warrego Highway near Oakey
A one-year-old girl is among three people killed when their car was hit by two trucks in a horror crash on the Warrego Highway west of Brisbane.
Queensland Police say emergency crews pronounced the three dead at the scene of the collision on the Oakey Creek Bridge on the Warrego Highway about 11:15am on Tuesday.
A fourth person in the car, a 36-year-old passenger, and sustained non-life threatening injuries. He is helping police with inquiries.
All four were from the western Queensland town of Roma.
Police say the eastbound car was hit first by the truck being driven in the opposite direction, then was hit by the second travelling east.
“The sedan ... sustained significant damage in the collision,” police said.
The driver of the westbound truck, a 20-year-old Kearneys Spring man, was taken to Toowoomba Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of the eastbound truck, a 55-year-old Brendale man, was not physically injured and is assisting police with inquiries.
The Forensic Crash Unit will investigate the circumstances of the collision and has appealed for witnesses, especially those with dashcam vision or CCTV of the crash, or the moments leading up, to it to come forward
The major highway is expected to remain closed for some time and drivers are urged to seek an alternative route between Dalby and Toowoomba.
